Sponsor a dog

All countries have such programs. We would like to start it here. A price of a puppy is approximately 500$. We suggest you buy a puppy that we recommend to train in the future as a Guide Dog. As a sponsor you will:

  • Give a name to your puppy
  • Receive a framed photo of your puppy
  • Receive quarterly reports about development of your puppy with its photos
  • Be able to visit your puppy at home where it will be raised
  • Receive an invitation to the exams of your puppy when it receives a Guide Dog passport
  • Receive an invitation for transfer of the Guide Dog to a disabled person
  • · In case your puppy does not pass the requirements for a Guide Dog and we are not able to re-qualify it as an assistant for other categories of the disabled, you will have priority in getting it should you wish to have it.

Puppy Raising

We need help in raising puppies to the age when we start to train them as Guide Dogs.

We generally buy 2-3 month old puppies that have to be raised to the training age. Our experience shows that it is necessary to raise puppies in a city environment where they'll have to work, otherwise they can grow as nervous dogs, not used to house behavior. Often puppies are raised in the families of the disabled people but it is not always possible. Our staff has to continually control how the puppies are raised and are looked after. Many of our clients live outside of Moscow, which is why it is difficult to maintain such control. Our staff are not always able to keep the puppies at their homes, besides, it increases the cost for maintaining the dogs. That's why we invite people to take a role of Puppy Raisers for 8-10 months. This program is widely used abroad and has been most effective. Puppy Raisers are dedicated volunteers who commit themselves to socialize the pup in all aspects of social behavior. At the end of this period they face the difficult task of returning their much loved pup to the Guide Dog Center for assessment and training.

With the support of our highly trained staff, volunteer Puppy Raisers look after the young pups in a family environment until they are 10 or 12 months of age. This puppy raising period is crucial for the development of future Guide Dogs. While living with the puppy raising family the pups will be house trained and learn how to walk correctly on a leash. Puppy Raisers provide the young pups with a wide range of social experiences, which they are likely to encounter during training and subsequent work as a Guide Dog. Socialization includes visiting shops, walking on busy streets, traveling on public transport, etc.

Puppy Raisers make an extraordinary commitment to the pup and their future potential. We need them to present us with a dog that has been well conditioned and socialized with everyday events and occurrences.

Puppy Raisers must have a positive attitude and a true commitment to this voluntary activity. The criteria for selection as a Puppy Raiser for Guide Dogs Victoria are very strict and include:

  • the pup should not be left alone the whole day
  • all family members must agree to take a pup
  • the pup needs to be house trained
  • the pup needs to be walked daily as required by its age and trained under a supervision of our dog trainer
  • we prefer puppy raising families to live in Moscow or Moscow region to facilitate supervision and provide assistance as required.

It is easier to raise our puppy if you buy a dog for yourself. Raising 2 puppies at the same time would not be as burdensome for you as if you took a puppy only for a program. This way you could help us without major costs or efforts.

We hope that in the majority of cases we will be able to get voluntarily assistance but we also consider other options. It is possible that you always dreamt of having a dog but can't afford a pedigree puppy. We can provide you 2 puppies, one of which will be yours. It is also possible that your work as a Puppy Raiser will be paid for.

Our staff are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Puppy Raising supervisors make regular visits to assess the pup's development, address any behavioral problems and advise what is now required for the pup's progression.

If you feel you meet the necessary criteria and have the commitment to help us provide Guide Dogs for people who are vision impaired, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please contact us at guidedogs@guidedogs.ru.

Corporate sponsorship

We would be happy to have a partnership with businesses. We would like to develop a partnership that suits their business objectives, areas of interest and work schedules. For example, you could produce Guide Dogs souvenirs or toys, place information about the Center in the media or on your websites, your catalogs, transfer a minimal percentage of your goods which you sell for the purposes of Guide Dogs' trainings, provide dogs' food or equipments, provide discounted veterinary services, organize events for collecting donations for the Center.

As our Center receives no government funding, your corporate partnership will provide vital support for our community services. In turn, you'll receive a substantial return on your investment. Research shows that customers strongly support a company's commitment to the local community. In fact, 49% of customers are prepared to switch brands to one associated with a good cause, given equal products and value.

And at a time when market differentiation is continually diminishing, this partnership with Guide Dogs can position your company as a generous contributor to the community.

This 'win win' partnership can:

  • enhance your corporate reputation
  • enhance your brand image
  • build your customer loyalty
  • raise your brand awareness
  • increase your sales
  • increase staff loyalty and motivation

We are also willing to review your offers to participate in advertising your products.

Through a corporate partnership with our Center, you can make a social contribution while improving your bottom line. It will make a positive difference to countless people, from your shareholders, to your staff members, to people with vision impairment in your community. For further information on the benefits of forming a corporate partnership with us, call Elena Orochko at 145 22 61 or send an e-mail at guidedogs@guidedogs.ru.

Collection boxes

You can place Guide Dog collection boxes in banks, hotels or the local shops. You can support our vital community services by simply placing a donation in these boxes, or you can get your workplace involved. While it costs nothing to the business, it's invaluable to people with vision impairment in the community.

By hosting a Guide Dog collection box, you will position yourself as a community organization supporting our Center. Customers and clients appreciate that your business supports such an important work.

Place our banner

Please place information about our Center on your website. This could attract new supporters and volunteers.

Organize a charitable event

We will appreciate any help in organizing charitable events in favor of our Center.

Buying adult dogs through us

The requirements for Guide Dogs are very tough. Unfortunately, only 50% of dogs that started training can become Guide Dogs. Part of such dogs train as assistants for other groups of disabled people. We would be happy if somebody buys other dogs that have not passed special training. As a rule, they are well trained and pass an obedience course.

Volunteer Program

Volunteers make an enormous contribution to the work of our Center. We welcome the assistance of volunteers in a range of activities, including the following:

Client Services

  • Transporting clients from their homes to our Center for taking a training course with their Guide Dog
  • Assisting our out of Moscow clients with accommodation in Moscow
  • Assisting our out of Moscow clients who may require help with personal shopping or they may simply spend time chatting with clients, making their stay in Moscow more enjoyable and relaxing

Recreation Program

Recreation activities for clients staying in our residential Training Centre are coordinated by the Recreation Officer and may include:

  • Going to the movies, restaurants, club to a concert, or a cafe
  • Providing sighted guide assistance and generally chating and socialising with our clients

Marketing & Public Relations

Volunteers assist in this area by helping to raise the Center's public profile as well as supporting the fundraising activities. They also make a valuable contribution by assisting with many events, including:

  • Special events for the Center
  • Sale of goods for the Center
  • Teaching at schools how to treat vision impaired people and Guide Dogs
  • Contacting potential sponsors

Administration

We need help with filing and including data entry, sorting letters, writing letters, contacting clients and other general office duties.

Help to the Disabled

You can also help vision impaired people that have or don't have Guide Dogs by visiting them, bringing them dog food, helping them with their household chores, or just simply socializing with them helping them to be accepted by othres. Please, believe us that they are wonderful people that are missing only one thing. Otherwise they are no different from people with normal vision.

If you can assist us or our clients in any way, please contact us.
