On 3 June 2006 Third Annual Charity Ball of the Expat Football League took place. Money raised at the ball will give Dogs As Assistants for Disabled People a chance to train guide dogs for vision impaired people that are on our waiting list. The waiting list never ends and some have to wait for a dog for a long time, especially the vision impaired people that live far away from Moscow because we either have to organize such person’s trip to Moscow (or a Guide Dog trainer’s trip to the person’s home town) and his/her training for 2 weeks to work with the Guide Dog. We are very grateful to the Expat Football League and everybody who has donated money for training of the Guide Dogs. Thanks to their help we will be able to help vision impaired people that live in towns far away from Moscow. Money raised by the Expat Football League last year helped us to train a Guide Dog for Nina Bykova and Alexey Kuznetsov who together with his wife Lyudmila and their Guide Dog Nevada was a guest at the Football Ball this year. Alexey’s story about his first Guide Dog Rita that lived with him for many years and was not just great at her work but also “introduced” Lyudmila and Alexey made a bid impression on everybody. Nina, Lyudmila and Alexey with all their heart thank the Expat Football League and its members for their help.

On Saturday 3rd June the Expat Football League will be holding its 3rd Annual Expat Summer Ball at the Renaissance Penta Hotel on Olympiskiy Propect.

We were presented with a puppy!

We have great news. Elena Rachenkova presented the Center with a Labrador pup from her Lafa.Желанная Встреча и ее сестренка A beautiful black pup was called Long-waited Meeting. Elena came up with the name herself. “The pup will grow, get smarter, when he gets older he will go through special training and will become somebody’s irreplaceable assistant and a good friend. Here’s a long-waited meeting. I believe it’s the right name!” said Elena. Of course, as any good breeder Elena is very worried about the destiny of her pups. Who will get them, will they be loved and looked after? Well, our baby has “golden” childhood. The Charlesworth family took her in. Now grown-up Golden Retriever Malevich has a friend. Tanya and Matthew have been helping us for almost 3 years now. They have been a “foster family” for German Shepherd Ayavrik during his guide dog training, have raised Malevich. Now they have a new foster-child. We really appreciate Elena’s generous donation. To be honest we felt awkward taking the puppy from her. It is not a secret that a good Labrador puppy costs a good deal and our disabled persons are not the most wealthy of people. When we told Elena about our concerns she was outraged. She said that she was proud that we are taking “her” pup. «Not every puppy will work for you and I am very pleased and Lafa’s daughter has been chosen». Elena that has been using guide dogs for many years understands more than anybody else how much such dogs mean to vision impaired people and how their lives improve when they get a dog.

The Sunny Dog is celebrating spring

On 25 March school ¹1992 in Butovo, where our therapy dogs have classes with a group of disabled children had a celebration. Children, their parents and friends of the Sunny Dog have got together to celebrate spring. Of course, the main participants were the children and the therapy dogs. First, dog sledging without which no celebration of the Sunny Dog ever goes. The hardworking team – Olly, Nika and Basya – have successfully completed the task. After they have entertained all the children they were left to run around and they had their own fun. The organizer and a “soul” of the whole party was Tanya Lyubimova. She organized these that were shy, did not let the ones that were trying to “avoid” the party. As a result everyone had fun. The party ended with nice tea.

Trips to Anglo-American Schools
Sledging is great winter entertainment! And everything is much more fun if the main participants are children and dogs. This winter when it finally got warmer our Golden Retrievers visited two Anglo-American schools... More>>>

German Shepherd Ayavrik has successfully passed his “graduation exams”. He was excellent on his rout and showed a great results in his obedience class. This is all thanks to Nina Kadykova, his Guide Dog Trainer. But they have the most difficult part ahead of them. Ayavrik needs to learn to work just as well with his new handler Nina Yakovlevna.

Our new trainee - German shepherd Grey. Now he lives in Tatyana Vlasenko's family. Natalia Gromova trains Grey for Tatiana. The favourite of the family, he has quickly accustomed to a new place, has made friends with a cat. Great hopes are on the dog. "I very much wish to learn to move independently in town. It is my greatest desire to study and communicate with people. Owing to the “seeing eye” dog I hope to get a university degree and to find a good job. Thank you for you helping to find independence and for giving hope " – this is what Tatyana wrote in her questionnaire.

The traditional spring dogs show of Russian Retriever Club took place on April 23-24. During this Retriever show our Center had the opportunity to raise funds for Guide Dog training. We thank activists of the Club and all participants for paid attention to our work and help. That was very nice to meet old friends and to make new friends. We spread leaflets and answered different questions. We hope that information about our Center, guidedogs and about the ways everyone could help disabled people will be helpful for all.

We have some very pleasant news. Elena Fedoseyeva, the owner of two charming golden retrievers, has presented a puppy from one of her dogs to our Center. She even gave us an opportunity to test several puppies and to choose from them one that will be the most suitable for our work. Many people know how dog breeders are concerned about their puppies, worry who gets their "children". We shall do our best to make sure that the pup grows healthy and happy. The pub is called Malevich and he now lives in a foster family that you are already familiar with. It is Tanya and Matthew Charlesworth and their kids who looked after Ayavrik during his training. Elena Fedoseeva continues to look after the puppy, visits him, gives advise to Tanya and Matthew. Our trainer Galina Aksenova it was already started to work and visits Malevich. Certainly, it is still too far to real training , but it is important to learn some «good manners » while still young.

On 9 January there was an unusual party for disabled children in school ¹ 1992. It was an evening of absolute happiness for Misha, Sonya, Dima, Sveta, Roma, Max, Dovran and their parents. The main reason for which was that they spent the evening with people, as equal, the way this SHOULD be in a normal society. It was a big party with Father Frost, Ice Maden (Olly), nice dinner and, of course, lots and lots of presents, laughter, songs and music. Everyone enjoyed it!

On 27 – 28 November Russian Retriever Club organized its traditional autumn canine show. The Club has kindly provided us an opportunity to raise funds during the show for training Guide Dogs. This was our first experience and we were not sure in the success. We were excited that most participants and spectators have been interested in our efforts. They looked at our photos, read our leaflets, asked questions. Many have found a way to help us. We thank them all! We also would like to thank the Club’s activists that supported us taking an active part in our fund raising. The funds that we raised will allow us to provide full training course to a vision impaired person that will receive a Guide Dog and to purchase necessary ammunition and dog food.
